How Percentage Calculations Work
Finding X% of a Number
To find a percentage of any number, multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. For example, to find 20% of 150: 150 × 20 ÷ 100 = 30
Finding What Percent X is of Y
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For example, 30 is what percent of 150? (30 ÷ 150) × 100 = 20%
Calculating Percentage Change
Subtract the original value from the new value, divide by the absolute value of the original, and multiply by 100. A positive result means an increase; negative means a decrease.
